Start me up — Gisborne Herald
Startup Weekend was back with a vengeance at Taiki e! on Friday evening, with 45 entrepreneurs gathering to brainstorm new projects. The sold-out event saw 31 ideas pitched then whittled down to 11 to be tested and tried over the weekend.
Budding entrepreneurs had 60 seconds to sell their idea to the rest of the participants in the hope of recruiting them. After the pitches, posters with the ideas are put up and people gather around the ideas that excite them the most.
In this way the successful projects are naturally selected by popularity. “By about 10pm on Friday, teams were formed, they're sitting down, and they were developing a bit of a plan of attack for the weekend,” said event co-organiser Cain Kerehoma.
